HUEBNER, John Andrew, Moravian bishop, born in Aschersleben, Prussia, 16 June, 1737; died in Berthelsdorf, Saxony, 26 December, 1809. In 1780 he was appointed pastor of the church at Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, which he served until 1790, when, on 11 April, he was consecrated bishop, and then resided at Litiz, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, but had a seat in the governing board at Bethlehem. He succeeded Bishop Hehl in the superintendence of the churches of southern Pennsylvania and Maryland. In 1801 he returned to Europe, having been elected to the supreme executive board, known as the "Unity's Elders' Conference," at Berthelsdorf.
