LAUGHLIN, James, donor, born in Belfast, Ireland, in 1806; died in Pittsburg, Pa., 18 December, 1882. He came to this country in his youth, and entered mercantile life. in which he was successful. For many years he was an elder in the Presbyterian church, and gave largely to its charities. He was president of the board of trustees of the Pennsylvania female college from its foundation in 1869, and was one of its liberal patrons. He contributed about $50,000 to the Western theological seminary in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania
