Edward Doubleday

DOUBLEDAY, Edward, English naturalist, born in 1810; died in London in 1849. He was a member of the Society of friends. After making a tour of the Unite(l States, he published a paper on the "Natural History of North America," and was made one of the curators of the British museum. He contributed largely to periodicals on ornithology, entomology, and zoology, and published a costly, illustrated, and valuable work on the "Genera of Diurnal Lepidoptera."
