SEPTENVILLE, Charles Edourd Langlois (say-tong-veal), Baron de, French author, born in Paris, 17 November, 1835. He inherited a fortune, and devoted himself to historical researches, especially upon the early history of South America. In March, 1876, he was elected a deputy by the city of Amiens, and he is member of various learned societies, including the Antiquaires de France, the Historical institute of Rio Janeiro, and the Archaeological society of Madrid. Septenville's works include, besides numerous valuable articles in historical magazines, "Victoires et conquetes de l'Espagne depuis l'occupation des Maures jusqu'a nos ]ours" (3 vols., Paris, 1862) ; "Decouvertes et conquetes du Portugal dans les deux mondes" (2 vols., 1863); "Le Brasil sous la domination Par-tugaise" (1872); and "Fastes militaires et maritimes du Portugal" (2 vols., 1879).
