WALKER, Abraham Joseph, jurist, born near Nashville, Tennessee, in 1818; died in Montgomery, Alabama, 25 April, 1872. He was graduated at Nashville university in 1838, admitted to the bar in 1841, and began practice at Jacksonville, Alabama, in 1842o He became a successful lawyer and Democratic legislator, and in 1852 removed to Talladega. He was appointed one of the state chancellors in 1854, was judge of the state supreme court in 1856-'9, and its chief justice in 1859-'68.
